History
The first annual Christmas on the Bayou parade was held in December 2000 following the creation of the Bayou Bernard Boating Club and was the brain child of Craig Nicholls. Since its inception, Christmas On The Bayou has grown from fewer than twenty decorated boats to being recognized as a Top Twenty Event in the Southeast United States by the Southeast Tourism Society on several occasions. In just a few years our small neighborhood parade has grown exponentially and received regional accolades.
Christmas On The Bayou is a unique event because not only do the boats decorate and participate in the lighted parade but the waterfront houses also compete to be named the Parade Captain’s Best House on the Bayou and serve as parade judges. Completely organized and presented by neighborhood volunteers and community donors, COTB embodies the Christmas spirit for all. Christmas On The Bayou is the only waterfront parade in Gulfport and gives everyone an up close and personal view of the boats with public viewing at three Gulfport boat launches/parks, and several waterfront restaurants.
The COTB Board of Directors and many others work every year to raise money and organize this extravaganza. It is hard work, but it is also very enjoyable. We hope everyone has as much fun as we do!
Our Thanks to all of you!.. we couldn’t do it without sponsors, participants, spectators, and local Official Agencies. Check Out Credits Because of You.. our dream has been realized.
Merry Christmas!
